Our Story
Brainworks was founded in 2007 by James and Sarah Roy after they had experienced the benefits of Neurofeedback (NFB) themselves. Their goal was to pioneer NFB in the UK by using the most up-to-date technology.
In 2007 they started with a branded 2-channel system that was excellent for some people. In pursuit of helping more people, they continued to seek better and better systems and methods. The journey so far has led them to use the cutting-edge 19-channel qEEG deep brain loreta system for both assessments and training.
From being one of the UK’s earliest neurofeedback practices we have grown into a leading name in neurofeedback and brain training technologies globally.
Innovation in Remote Training
Not content with finding the best hardware and software, they wanted to deliver quality neurofeedback to people everywhere – no matter of one’s location or ability to travel. Their search for technology to bring neurofeedback into people’s homes lead them to the realisation that it didn’t exist. If they wanted to offer quality 19-channel NFB in people’s homes they would have to develop their own and since 2015 they have been doing just that.
When COVID-19 stopped all in-person sessions, the Brainworks teams were able to deliver the same standard of sessions in people’s own homes.
They also began to supply therapists globally with their software.
In the pursuit of excellence, they refined the software to deliver a greater client experience. They now only offer assessments in person and do all training remotely in people’s homes. This is preferable for busy people but it also means they can work intensively to obtain better results in shorter times.
They quickly adapted the software for public use, ensuring uninterrupted access to their services.
Rooted in Family, Growing in Expertise
In 2010 Sarah and James joined forces with Christina Lavelle and brought Brainworks into London. In 2015 they began their collaboration with Ingrid Valentin and Philip Pascal in Belgium. To this day they lead the therapeutic team.
Together they are a tight team.
To this day we are still grounded in our family business roots and our commitment to personal care and professional excellence remains unchanged. We pride ourselves on the expertise of our clinicians, who are among the most experienced neurofeedback professionals in the industry.
Evolution
As brain training technology progresses, we evolve with it.
2007
Brainworks was open, the first to offer non-linear neurofeedback in the UK. The field has moved forward greatly since then, but it was a good place to get our start.
2009
To increase efficacy and reduce the number of sessions needed, we moved away from non-linear methods to an elegant ten sensor neurofeedback system.
2010
Recognsing that home training was the way forward, we began a decade-long project to develop a home neurofeedback system. We had many early failures.
2011
To increase efficacy and reduce sessions further still, we moved onwards and upwards to QEEG guided neurofeedback with 19 sensor sLoRETA training software.
2014
We finally arrived at the key to remote neurofeedback that actually worked in real-world practice, and opened the world's first dedicated remote clinic.
2017
With the outbreak of COVID, we began licensing our remote software to help keep fellow practices stay afloat. We went from a fringe method to industry-leading software providers in short order.
2022
Over the course of 25,000 clinical sessions, Ana learned how to deal with any and every eventuality in the field. She can run a complete session on her own and tutor new therapists.
